Dear Friends,
We are inviting anyone who is living with SCI, your friends and your family to come out and enjoy a WYNGS support group meeting. There is no cost for attending support group meetings. People who attend are at all stages of life and various stages of post-injury. Meetings are available for both Spanish speaking and English speaking people. The meetings are relaxed and always provide an opportunity for some open discussion. Sometimes we have a guest speaker to talk on important topics, and sometimes the topics spring from the current interests of those attending. WYNGS support group meetings are facilitated by a volunteer with many years of personal experience with spinal cord injury and lots of experience in running support group meetings in a way that ensures that you will benefit from attending.
People who attend are often wonderful resources for each other, and it is a great way to connect with friends who share your interests and concerns. Please know that when you attend a support group meeting, we want you to get out of it what you need. Some people like to talk, some like to listen. Some have years of experience to share, some want to soak up the information and learn from new friends. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see you. WYNGS holds support group meetings at four locations. Please check the schedule on this website or call our office (818) 267-3031 for information that will help you decide which location/time is best for you.
If you would like to attend but find that the locations or your means of transportation make it impossible, please call and tell us this. We are always looking at how we can improve our service to people living with spinal cord injury, and enough requests from one area tells us that there is a definite need for a support group in that location. If transportation is a problem, please tell us. We may be able to pair you with a peer counselor or ride-sharing might be arranged. If many people in one area are hindered by transportation, it tells us of the need to bring support group meetings to that area or pursue transportation to support group meetings via grant funding. We need your help in determining these things. Thank you for keeping us informed. Please give us a call or come out to a meeting soon.
Sincerely,
Michele Altamirano, WYNGS Program Director
